What is The Parenting Children Course?
The Parenting Children Course was developed by Nicky and Sila Lee, co-authors of ‘The Marriage Book’ and ‘The Parenting Book’. They have been married for over thirty years, have four children, three grandchildren and are on the staff at Holy Trinity Brompton – the London church that started the Alpha course. They started running the courses at Holy Trinity Brompton in 1996.
Drawing on their own experience of bringing up four children and having talked to thousands of parents over the years on their parenting courses, Nicky and Sila Lee bring fresh insights and time-tested values to the task of parenting.
What is the course like?
The course takes place over five evenings. We start with coffee, tea and a delicious selection of desserts with a bit of time to chat and settle in. Over the course of the evening there are two half-hour DVDs, covering a range of parenting topics. There is also time for group discussion, reflection and short exercises in your Guest Manual. The discussion time is relaxed and informal, and anything you choose to share remains confidential.
Who is this course for?
The Parenting Children Course is for any parents, step-parents, prospective parents or carers of children aged 0 – 10 years. Whether you are feel you have strong parenting skills or are struggling, this course can give you fresh insight and strategies. Time spent focussing on parenting with our spouse is invaluable, as is developing a support-network of parents in the same season of life.
Is the course only for Christians?
Whilst both courses are based on Christian principles, it is designed for parents with or without a Christian faith. Many parents who are not churchgoers have commented that the Christian content was presented in a way that did not make them uncomfortable at all.
Why do the course?
- Children do not arrive with an instruction manual!
- No role we undertake is more important than parenting
Parents feel under more pressure than ever today and many of us are in need of help and support. Sometimes we can feel isolated and bewildered by the choices about how to parent effectively. Discovering we are not alone in the challenges we face and picking up ideas from other parents can make a huge difference. We can all learn how to make even the happiest family better!
